Myths and Facts About H1 Jobs
There are lots of myths about how to get H1B visa sponsoring jobs. You must identify what are myths and what are facts. The following list is the well-knows myths:
- H1 visa is only for IT industry :
The fact is that H1 visa is for all kind of industries including health care, service, manufacturing, and even entertainment industry. The restriction is that H1 visa is for high-skilled jobs (specialty occupation) and cannot be used for non-high-skilled employees.
- You need a US degree to get an H1 job :
The fact is that it does not matter as long as you can prove that your degree is equally qualified to the US bachalor's degree. There are many companies that are doing business in "education evaluation" and you can consult them about the eligibility of your qualification.
- All jobs are advertised :
The fact is that more than half of jobs are filled without any advertisement on newspaper or on the Internet. Even if the jobs are advertised, many of them are advertised on a web site that nobody views or on a magazine that few people reads. The best approach is to use your human network, and send your resume to as many employers that may or may not have an immediate opening of a position of your expertise.
- The job applications must be through the HR :
Recent studies show that surprisingly many jobs are filled by back-door applicants. If you personally know someone (from your country or from your alumni-network) at a company where you want to work, take advantage of the human network.
- If I get a degree from a prestigious school, I will certainly get a job in the US:
Most employers select candidates based on many criteria and even though academic qualification is one of them there are also many other important reasons for an employer to select someone.
- Only large companies will sponsor H1 visa :
The fact is that there are some reasons that it may be easier for smaller companies to sponsor H1 visa for their employees (large companies cannot fill more than 15% of their positions with H1-workers). In addition, it will be much more competitive to get a job at a large company.
