- Search for any career fair or similar events (whereever you are currently in), and try to attend as many of them as possible.
- Prepare a good resume, and build a good career history related to the job that you are targeting. If it is not easy to get a career history, try to make your resume stronger with externships or volunteering.
- Networking is important. Take advantage of your alumni network, and keep your professors, friends and all others ou know aware that you are looking for a job in the US.
- Take advantage of the Internet, and send your resume to all companies that have vacancies in the position that you are looking for.
- There are a lot of examples of cover letters and resumes in the Internet. If you are not familiar to the American resume style, read them and follow those style. Even if you are from one of English-speaking countries, you may find that the American resume style is a bit different from those in your home country. If you are from a country where cultures and customs are different from the US, examine as manu sample resumes as possible, and follow the American rules.
- Do not expect too much from job search web sites such as Monster.com or Dice.com. Many companies do not post their job advertisements there, and once they post a job ad, they will start receiving thousands of applications every day, and they will not even read your application.
- Even though you don't get an immediate outcome, be patient and keep on sending your job applications. It is quite common in the US that job seekers send applications to more than 100 companies.
